Stehlin bemerkt dazu in seinen «Architectonischen Mittheilungen aus Basel», die neue Richtung (Ecole Romantique) hätte keinen Wert auf die Stile gelegt, sondern ein Bauwerk aus den räumlichen und konstruktiven Erfordernissen entstehen lassen.
